What homecoming dress should i wear?

im a freshman in high school and all my friends are excited for our first homecoming. I am too but im nervous about what to wear. whenever i ask my older brother he just says a turtle neck and sweatpants. yea, not happening. Im 5'5 with medium length brown hair and dark brown eyes. Im very pale and skinny but i still have some curves. i dont wanna go over the top but i dont wanna look under dresses in a cheap cotton dress either. Please help me!
